What Are INSiGHT Scans and Why Do We Use Them?

If you have ever come into Revolution Chiropractic and had those little sensors rolled along your spine, you have experienced an INSiGHT neurothermographic scan. And if you have ever wondered what exactly we are measuring and why we do it, this post is for you.

What is an INSiGHT scan?

An INSiGHT scan is a non-invasive, FDA-registered tool that measures the health and function of your nervous system using thermal scanning. It measures temperature differences along both sides of your spine.

Here is why that matters. Your nervous system controls blood flow and temperature regulation throughout your entire body. When there is stress or interference in the nervous system, it shows up as temperature asymmetry on either side of the spine. These patterns give us a window into how well your nervous system is actually functioning, including the part that controls things like digestion, immune response, and your body's ability to adapt to stress.

Think of it like a heat map of your nervous system. We can see exactly where stress is building, where your body is compensating, and how your nervous system is responding overall.

Why does this matter more than just how you feel?

This is the part we really want people to understand. Your body is incredibly good at adapting. When dysfunction starts building in your spine or nervous system, your body will compensate for it, often for a long time before you feel any symptoms at all. By the time pain or other symptoms show up, your body has usually been dealing with the underlying issue for a while.

This means how you feel on any given day is not always a reliable picture of how well your nervous system is actually functioning. The INSiGHT scan gives us objective data that goes beyond symptoms. It shows us what is happening underneath the surface so we can address things before they become something you can feel.

How we use scans throughout your care

At Revolution we use INSiGHT scans at specific points in your care so we can track real progress over time, not just go off of how you feel after an adjustment.

For patients in their first year of care, we scan on your very first visit to establish a baseline. We scan again around the three month mark to see how your nervous system is responding to care, and again at six months to assess your progress and make sure your care plan is still the right fit for where your body is now.

For patients who have been with us for over a year, we do a full re-scan once a year. This gives us a long term picture of how your nervous system health is trending and helps us make sure your maintenance care is actually working the way it should.

So what is maintenance care and why do scans make it better?

Once someone has completed their initial phase of care and is feeling better, a lot of people wonder if they still need to keep coming in. The answer is yes, and here is why.

Your spine and nervous system are constantly under stress. Sitting, standing, lifting, sleeping, emotional stress, all of it creates wear on your spine over time. Maintenance care is how we keep your nervous system functioning at the level you worked so hard to get it to. It is not about fixing a problem. It is about not letting one develop in the first place.

And this is exactly where the INSiGHT scans become so valuable for long term patients. Instead of just assuming everything is fine because you feel okay, we can actually measure it. We can see if stress patterns are starting to build before you feel them. We can catch small shifts before they become bigger issues. We can confirm that your maintenance schedule is working for your specific nervous system, and adjust it if it is not.

Feeling good is a great sign. Objective data is how we know for sure.

The bottom line

Chiropractic care has always been about more than pain relief. It is about helping your nervous system function the way it was designed to. The INSiGHT scan is one of the most powerful tools we have to make that work objective, trackable, and personalized to you.

If you have questions about your scans or what your results mean, ask us at your next visit. We love talking about this stuff.
