Austin: From C-section to vBAC

With the birth of my first child I went in uneducated, and now looking back I believe that choice was due to fear. I ended up having a c-section. I was not educated, not empowered and was really flying by the seat of my pants. Story for another day…

I quickly realized why women prepare extensively for birth. When I got pregnant with my son, my doctors immediately presented me with the option of a TOLAC (trial of labor after Cesarean). They were really encouraging it. Although I wasn’t totally convinced yet, I had this instant feeling I knew I could do it. Fast forward about 1 day (ha!), I was all in. I started doing research and listening to podcasts. I stayed active doing Pure Barre, teaching spin, and chasing a toddler. Most importantly, I just joined my daughter going to Revolution Chiropractic. I wanted every tool in my toolbelt to be able to have a successful VBAC.

At 37 weeks I started having pretty intense contractions that I assumed were Braxton Hicks. That Monday I was 3cm dilated. On Wednesday I had another appointment and decided to do a membrane sweep. Five hours later I started having consistent contractors and went to labor and delivery (8pm). After an hour they sent me home because I wasn’t dilating further. At home contractions slowed, but they were extremely intense. At 7am it hit me. I couldn’t move, I had intense pressure, and I knew this baby was coming fast. We arrived at the hospital at 8am and by 9am I was holding my precious baby boy. My nurse was beyond encouraging that I stick to my VBAC plan even when there wasn’t enough time to get an epidural, let alone even an IV. She helped me through every contraction and encouraged me to let my body do what it was created to do. I will absolutely never forget the feeling of my baby moving down my body with every contraction and pulling him out myself and placing him on my own chest.

The connection was instant (unlike with my daughter). I have never been so empowered, so proud, and so in-tune with my body. I know without a doubt Revolution Chiropractic and their adjustments / attention to my body had a huge part in this. Revolution will continue to be a part of my routine and my kids routine for as long as they will have us! I cannot recommend enough. It has enhanced so many aspects of my life, as well as my son and daughter’s.
